Mission Rosary
Leader: O God, come to my assistance
All: O Lord, make haste to help me
Lead: Glory be to the Father, the Son…… continue together
Lead: I believe in God………. Continue together
Lead: O my Jesus… all continue
Lead: These five events in the life of Jesus that we are trying to relive and emulate are very familiar to us. Today, in the context the missionary vocation of the church, particularly with the call to a renewed and inclusive or all-encompassing evangelization through Laudato si and Frattelli Tutti by Pope Francis, these events assume great significance and spur us to reflection and action. The day church changes it evangelizing nature, it ceases to be the body of Christ. Let us reflect and pray with Mary our Mother.

Lead: The first Mystery: John the Baptist becomes the first to recognize Jesus and Elizabeth, the first to declare him Publicly

Reader: And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the child leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. And she exclaimed with a loud cry, “blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted me, that the mother of my lord should come to me? For behold, when the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the child in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfilment of what was spoken to her from the lord” (Lk: 1:41-45

Lead: This event in the lives of John and Elizabeth shows us very convincingly any one who experiences the presence of Jesus cannot be silent about it. He/ she should rejoice at it and share it with others. It should not be hidden. This sharing of Jesus is what the church calls evangelization. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill top cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” Mt.5:15-16)

Through this mystery let us pray for the millions of children all over the world who are aborted and are not allowed to recognize Jesus and to live, work and witness to him. Let us also pray for the multitude of women who are abused, exploited, persecuted and denied of all human dignity and rights. Jesus came for them too.

Lead: The Second Mystery: Jesus calls peter and others to be his disciples and

Apostles:

Reader: And he went up on the mountain, and called to him those whom he desired; and they came to him. And he appointed twelve, to be with him, and to be sent out to preach And have authority to cast out demons: ( Mk: 3:13-15) The Gospel spells out very clearly that the ordinary men whom Jesus called from their work field were chosen and empowered “to be with him and to be send out”. By baptism every Christian is called and through confirmation fully empowered to be an apostle. The Lord is asking us to examine our faithfulness to this mission. The church that is suffering so much today in the world is the product of this infidelity to the mission at all levels.

In this mystery we pray for all the baptized, professed Religious and ordained ministers that we all may be reignited by the Spirit of the Lord. That we may go out into the lives of the people who are hungry for the word, for love and for justice, in other words, the new order that Jesus alone can bring. “ I have come to cast fire on the earth, how I wish it were already burning”.

Lead: Our Father.. All continue.. Hail Marys and Glory be…. Lead: The third Mystery: Jesus sets out on his mission of preaching, teaching and healing:

Reader: And he went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people. So, his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, and paralytics, and he healed them. And great crowds followed him from Galilee and the Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and from beyond the Jordan. (Mt: 4:23-25)

Jesus had just one mission in life, to make the father known and loved and to make the people experience his love and fatherhood. At the age of twelve he asks his mother, “why did you search for me? Did you not know that I should be about my Father’s business?”. Though highly embarrassing, May had no answer but “kept in heart”. All other activities and engagements that we undertake are to enhance this mission. It is time that we ask ourselves, how effective we are as missionaries. After two thousand years, how much have we accomplished? The question of Jesus, “When the Son of man comes, will he find faith on earth”? should haunt every Christian today! The failures or ineffectiveness comes as a result of our deviation from the mission, stressing on the peripherals or throwing the baby out and keeping the water.

In this mystery we pray for the “called, appointed and anointed missionaries” who have lost their zeal and fervour and are distracted and pre-occupied with many other things and least about making the Father known, loved and experienced. Lead: Our Father.. All continue.. Hail Marys and Glory be….

Lead: The fourth Mystery: Jesus Washes the feet of the Apostles:
Reader: And during supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him, Jesus knowing that the father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God, Rose from the supper, laid aside his garments, and tied a towel around himself. Then he poured water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him. (Jn: 13-2-5)

Jesus and the church insist on our going out to the highways and byways and seeking out the lost, the unloved, the neglected and nursing the wounded. Like the good Samaritan, to reach out in love to all in need without looking at any human differences, to demolish all barriers created by human preferences and prejudices. When he said, “I came to serve and not to be served”, he meant it. Beginning from Peter at the temple gate on Pentecost day, the early missionaries all over thew world, through their willingness to reach out to all and total availability drew millions to Jesus and to the Father. The classes, positions of power and money and the titles that we have created make us partly Christian, partly marketeers and partly business people. The people cannot and will not accept an indifferent, unavailable, arrogant Christ.

In this mystery, we pray that simplicity, serviceability and availability that Jesus lived and taught comes down to the people through the Bishops, Priests, Religious in a special way and through every baptized person.

Lead: Our Father.. All continue.. Hail Marys and Glory be….
Lead: The Fifth Mystery: The Ascension and Pentecost:

Reader: “And he said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons, they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick and they will recover. So, then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that attended it. Amen” Mk. 16:15-20

We have the great commandment to preach, baptize and to reach out to all the people of the world with the good news of Jesus and the necessary support for it from the Holy Spirit. The Spirit breaks down all barriers, boundaries of language, ethnicity, castes and all other human made differences and unites everyone in the name of Jesus. The early church thrived on the power of the Spirit in spite of bitter persecutions. This vitality of the Spirit has been drained away from us, as we are haunted by “sick hurry and divided aims”.

In this mystery let us pray for unity in families, in and among the churches and that we may become disciples and work together for the spread of God’s kingdom, for the arrival of the “new heaven and new earth”.
